A fairly standard movie where a messed-up kid and a messed-up psychologist end up healing each other by the end of the movie. It ends up working because of the interesting characters and witty dialogue.
The premise described in the previews of a genius kid solving tough math problems is played out very early in the movie. Next, all of the characters are presented. We start learning their motivations and eventually their faults. We learn that, for such a smart guy, Will Hunting is capable of doing some pretty dumb things.
I did find it interesting that Minnie Driver gets to use her real accent for the first time.
Good story with interesting characters. On my brother's Total Movie Value Scale, rates Matinee.
